HARVARD VOCARIUM BIRTHDAY PARTY

Wednesday, March 29, 2023, 5:00pm - 6:30pm
Woodberry Poetry Room (Lamont Library, Room 330)
Open to the public, Event,

Join us for birthday cake, sparkling wine, and 1930s-era jazz as we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Harvard Vocarium record label, one of the first poetry recording labels in the United States and the force behind the Poetry Room's on-going mission (and pioneering vision) to create a  Library of Voices at Harvard and beyond.

Groove to the music as Guest DJ Peter Laurence (Librarian for Recorded Sound and Media at the Loeb Music Library) spins tunes on his gramophone; commune with poets, faculty, and friends of the Poetry Room; and participate in some collaborative listening sessions on the original Alvar Aalto consoles.

A curated selection of Poetry Room LPs, including several original Harvard Vocarium records alongside contemporary releases from our friends and collaborators at Fonograf Editions will be on hand. Our new John Ashbery LP will be on sale AND you'll be the first to listen to our Audre Lorde at Fassett Studio test-pressing.This event will inaugurate a series of public Listening Sessions curated by Mary Walker Graham.

In-Person Attendance: Woodberry Poetry Room, Room 330, Lamont Library. Cake-cutting and curatorial remarks at 5:30pm. Free and open to the public.
