Description:

In Fall 2023, Tozzer Library staff asked the User Research Center to research their community’s needs regarding the Tozzer Library’s lower level. The URC conducted student research with Tozzer using a Tiny Cafe model, which is a pop-up event where participants take 5-10 minutes to complete user research tasks. Come learn about the UX model of a Tiny Cafe and the results from the study.

Speaker Bios: 

Susan Gilman

Susan Gilman (she/her) is the Librarian for Tozzer Library, which is Harvard’s anthropology library. In this role Susan directs the library, engages in collection development, oversees the library’s special collections, and acts as a liaison for Harvard’s Anthropology Department, Human Evolutionary Biology Department, and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology.

Julie Fiveash

Julie Fiveash is Kinyaa’áanii born for Naakai. Their maternal grandfather’s clan is Táchii’nii and their paternal grandfather is Bilagaana. Julie is Diné/Navajo and uses the pronouns they/them/theirs. As the Librarian for American Indigenous Studies, they prioritize developing an Indigenous centered collection development policy at Tozzer Library and developing ways that the Harvard Library can create inclusive research spaces and guides for Indigenous students, faculty, staff, and researchers. They also have an active interest in zines and zine making and have held several zine making events across campus.

Meg McMahon

Meg McMahon (they/them) is the User Experience Researcher at the User Research Center within Harvard Library where they conduct UX research for the library directly supporting library strategic initiatives, provide consultation to support library staff, and perform accessibility audits for the library. Meg has spoken about their work at DLF, D4D, and Nercomp. They have contributed to Weave: Journal of Library User Experience.
