URC Lunch & Learn: UMSI Summer 2024 Intern Presentations
Description:
The UX & Discovery summer interns from the University of Michigan School of Information, Tyra Briscoe, Tara Dorje, and Andrew Nakamura, will present a few of the projects they have worked on. They will also briefly talk about the internship and their collaboration with each other and with the UX and Discovery team as well.
Speaker Bios:
Tyra Briscoe
Tyra Briscoe (she/her) is an intern with the UX & Discovery team at the Harvard Library. Tyra has an Associate’s degree in Library Technical Services and recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Information with a concentration in User Experience and a Linguistics minor as a nontraditional student. This fall semester, she is entering a one-year graduate program in Library Science at the University of Michigan School of Information. She has experience working as a reference assistant at the Stephen S. Clark Map Library and as the library manager for Tanner Library in the University of Michigan’s Philosophy Department.
Tara Dorje
Tara Dorje (she/her) is a UX & Discovery intern at Harvard Library, where she supports user experience projects and digital collections initiatives across various library platforms. She is currently a graduate student at the University of Michigan School of Information, pursuing studies in user experience research and design alongside coursework in library science and archival practice. She received her B.A. in History of Art with a minor in Film Studies from the University of Michigan, and has held internships at institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA PS1, Rubin Museum of Art, and Asia Art Archive in America. At Harvard, she has worked on projects to support and streamline curator workflows for developing online digital collections, explore applications of AI tools in academic libraries, and improve user experience for non-native English speakers engaging with library resources.
Andrew Nakamura
Andrew Nakamura (he/him) is a UX & Discovery intern with the Harvard Library. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Information with a Bachelor’s degree in Information with a focus on UX Design and a minor in digital studies, and he is looking forward to starting a one-year library science graduate program at the University of Michigan School of Information this August. Andrew also has experience as a stacks assistant for the University of Michigan’s Hatcher Graduate Library. Over the course of the summer, he worked on a variety of projects related to user research on library tools and curatorial processes, public domain set curation, and copyright registration research on digitized materials.
The presentation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM on Zoom. Zoom meeting information will be sent via email once you register.
