Tuesday, April 11, 2023, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Houghton Library
Open to the public, Presentation, Workshop,
Registration has closed.

As part of Houghton’s spring exhibition “Do It Yourself! Self-Publishing from Letterpress to LaserJet,” join local artists, zine-makers, and designers in a series of hands-on workshops. Workshops are free and open to the public, and all materials will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required.

Workshop 5: After exploring the exhibit, join Bridgett Johnson-Pride in creating your own zines and magazines. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on the exhibition and how the tenets of self-publishing resonate with them, or use images from the collection to create their own narrative. Participants will also learn how to fold a 1-page zine.

About the workshop leader: Bridgett Kathryn Johnson-Pride (she/ her) is a Black, queer artist, currently serving as the Interim Associate Librarian for Public Services at Houghton, and winding down her time as a member of the inaugural class of Cultural Heritage fellows for the Rare Book School. She is a former organizer for the 2018 Massachusetts Feminist Zine Fest and enjoys teaching with primary sources and empowering young learners to embark on personal discovery in the archives. Bridgett received her MLIS and MA in History from Simmons University in 2018.
