Houghton Library welcomes Bruce Holsinger, Linden Kent Memorial Professor at the University of Virginia and editor-in-chief of New Literary History, who will give the Spring 2024 Philip and Frances Hofer Lecture on the Art of the Book.

The lecture will explore the history, craft, biology, and art of parchment from the ancient world to the digital age.

Bio: Bruce Holsinger is Linden Kent Memorial Professor at the University of Virginia and editor-in-chief of New Literary History. He is also the author of four novels, including The Gifted School and The Displacements(Penguin Random House/Riverhead). His new book, On Parchment: Animals, Archives, and the Making of Culture from Herodotus to the Digital Age, has recently appeared from Yale University Press.
