Advanced Data Cleaning for GIS
In this workshop, we will practice working through common problems that arise when preparing mapping data for spatial analysis. You will leave with strengthened foundational GIS skills. We will also provide example approaches to especially challenging GIS data problems.
We will use the open source desktop software QGIS for hands-on practice and demonstrate how to scale up or integrate GIS methods into programming workflows, such as using R or Python for data analysis. No prior GIS experience is necessary for this workshop; the materials are slightly tailored to those already working with data in their research.
This will be a collaborative session with group discussion and interactive components. If you would prefer one-on-one instruction, please email the organizer, or book a GIS consultation with the Harvard Map Collection.
Instructor: Belle Lipton, GIS Outreach Librarian, Harvard Map Collection
