Understanding Knowledge Organization: from Novice to Expert

Thursday, August 8, 2024, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Lamont Library - Forum Room (Room #335)
Library staff only, Professional Development,
Registration has closed.

Come join the Research, Teaching, and Learning Council for another "no reading reading club" in the Lamont Forum Room on August 8th, 3-5pm. The theme for the meeting is methods of knowledge organization, factors that influence them, and how we can leverage that research in our own work.

Through a combination of short presentations, hands-on activities, and discussions we will be covering the content from Chapter 3 of How Learning Works, entitled "How Does the Way Students Organize Knowledge Affect Their Learning?" You do not need to have read the chapter to join the meeting.

After this meeting you will:

  • Understand the difference between novice and expert knowledge organization.
  • Have learned some ways to foster the growth of connections towards expert-level organization via library programs and tools.
  • Be able to articulate how you organize knowledge in your area(s) of expertise and apply it to library services and teaching & learning activities.

This event is in-person only, and refreshments will be provided. Everyone with an interest in knowledge organization and learning is encouraged to attend.
