Fall 2024 Philip and Frances Hofer Lecture on The Bow & Arrow Press: Repository of History/Laboratory of Imagination
Houghton Library welcomes Johanna Drucker, Breslauer Professor and Distinguished Professor Emerita in the Department of Information Studies at UCLA, who will give the Fall 2024 Philip and Frances Hofer Lecture on The Bow & Arrow Press: Repository of History/Laboratory of Imagination.
The lecture will explore her experiences printing at the Bow & Arrow Press in 1988-89 where she encountered a rich repository of material and equipment as well as a lively community connected to the printing arts. Reception to follow.
Bio: Johanna Drucker is the Breslauer Professor and Distinguished Professor Emerita in the Department of Information Studies at UCLA. She was a Mellon Faculty Fellow in the Department of Fine Arts at Harvard in 1988-89 and printed two books at the Bow & Arrow, The Word Made Flesh and The History of the/my Wor(l)d as well as a collaborative work, Sample Dialogue with Emily McVarish, and other pieces. She is internationally known for her scholarly work in visual poetry, graphic design history, artists’ books, digital humanities and alphabet studies. Her artist’s books are represented extensively in museum and library collections.
