T. S. ELIOT MEMORIAL READING: Cecilia Vicuña

Thursday, October 24, 2024, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Open to the public, Reading/Lecture,

The Woodberry Poetry Room’s 2024 T. S. Eliot Memorial Reading honors poet, artist, activist, filmmaker, and force for the good: Cecilia Vicuña. Vicuña will be introduced by her longtime collaborator: the award-winning poet and translator Rosa Alcalá (author of You and MyOTHER TONGUE).

A consummate creator, word-weaver, wavemaker, and interdisciplinary visionary, Vicuña is the author of over 30 volumes of poetry and visual art, including WordWeapons, co-published by RITE Editions and Wattis Institute, San Francisco (2023) and New & Selected Poems of Cecilia Vicuña, edited and co-translated by Rosa Alcalá, Kelsey Street Press (2018). Solo exhibitions of her work have been organized at major institutions around the world, including MALBA, Buenos Aires; Museo de Bellas Artes, Santiago de Chile; Tate Modern; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.

A pop-up installation featuring selected "palabrarmas/word-weapons" will be temporarily on view at the Poetry Room in conjunction with this program (stay tuned for additional information). We are grateful to Cecilia and her exceptional team for generously providing us with permission to display a selection of her powerful, pacificist works. This event is made possible through the generosity of the T. S. Eliot Foundation.
