Data + Donuts: Joseph Hnath on Choice, Competition, & Regulation in Medicare

Joseph Hnath is a PhD Candidate in Health Policy (G5, Economics) at Harvard University. At this session of Data + Donuts, Joseph will present on his dissertation research which examines choice, competition, and regulation in Medicare Advantage with a focus on Special Needs Plans (SNPs). He'll also share some of the computational methods and tools he uses to pursue his research.
Joseph graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2019 with majors in Chemical Biology, Cognitive Science, and Economics. He then received his MPH from Case Western in 2020, during which his research focused on the effects of abortion policy restrictions on maternal health outcomes. He was also involved with the NEO-CASE project, a cancer disparities resource that combined Ohio cancer registry data with other sources, such as surveys, facility locations, and Census data. In addition to his dissertation research, Joseph studies the health care workforce. Faculty that he is currently working with include Ellen Meara, Vilsa Curto, David Grabowski, J. Michael McWilliams, and Mike Chernew.
