Presentation on Services for Students with Print Disabilities

Please join us on Zoom for a presentation and discussion on the services that Harvard provides for students with print disabilities and other disabilities that impact access to reading materials. This event is for all library staff who work directly with students or who are interested in the student experience. The presentation will be recorded.

  • Tanya Washburn, Assistive Technology Manager, Assistive Technology Center 
  • Spruill Harder, Associate Director of Access Services for Professional School Libraries 

What we’ll cover:

  • The wide range of disabilities that impact access to physical and digital materials
  • Support resources available through Harvard’s Assistive Technology Center and Accessibility at Harvard Library
  • The student experience, including how students become aware of and access available support
  • Demo of Kurzweil 3000, assistive software used by many students
  • Tips for library staff on how to refer and support students
  • Your questions!

  • Chafee Amendment - says that when creating materials for a person with a qualifying disability you are not bound by copyright
  • Berkeley Settlement - defines reasonable timelines for delivering accessible materials
