From Text to 3D: Word Clouds for Exploration

Monday, February 9, 2026, 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Online, Open to the public, Love Data Week, OSRDS,
Registration has closed.

Exploring large document collections is hard—especially in text-centric humanities where scale and messiness preclude close reading. Join Matt Cook, Digital Scholarship Program Manager, to learn about Longhand an experimental visualization pipeline that uses (text-to-3D) AI to transform a plain-text corpus into a navigable "object cloud," rendering tokens as 3D models and enabling researchers to better perceive semantic patterns through depth cues and virtual (XR) embodiment.

This talk will conclude with a demo that ingests "Digital Giza" excavation diaries to simulate Egyptian artifact collections, which are then deployed in an online world for exploration, collaboration, and discovery.

Registration is required.

Harvard Library is committed to making our workshops accessible to everyone. If you require accommodation to fully participate in the session, then please contact Emily Kilcer to discuss options.
