Finding GIS Data
This workshop is designed to welcome those new to working with Geographic Information Systems or digital mapping with common approaches to working with data. This session has participants in mind who may be endeavoring to work on new mapping projects and hoping to get some inspiration for where they might find sources. We will cover tips and tricks to using traditional data clearinghouses, how to create mapping data of your own from unlikely sources such as news events, how to leverage crowd-sourced datasets, and finally, working with archival maps and historical datasets. Note: while this session is designed for beginners, it is not a training on how to use GIS software; the session is designed to generate ideas for finding project data sources. If you would also like training on GIS data and software basics, please sign up for Introduction to GIS.
