No Fees? No Problem: Advancing Diamond Open Access
Celebrate International Open Access Week 2026 at Harvard Library.
Join us for a conversation with special guests Denis Bourget of Peer Community In (PCI) and Melissa Seelye of the Lyrasis Open Access Community Investment Program (OACIP).
While some forms of open access remove paywalls from readers just to place them in front of authors, no-fee (diamond) open access does away with paywalls altogether. Scholars can read groundbreaking research free of charge, and authors can contribute to the conversation unfettered by fees.
Denis Bourget and Melissa Seelye will share how PCI and OACIP — both diamond open access initiatives — are breaking down barriers and creating new ways to support scholarly research. OACIP provides a community-driven framework that enables the evaluation and collective funding of diamond open access journals. PCI offers thematic platforms to review preprints, as well as the multidisciplinary, indexed, and diamond open access Peer Community Journal, where validated preprints can be published without author-side fees.
Learn about how OACIP and PCI are advancing the creation, sharing, and publication of diamond open access scholarship.
Free and open to the public with registration.

About the Speakers
Denis Bourguet, Co-founder of PCI
Denis is a senior researcher at the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE). During the first part of his career, he conducted research in evolutionary biology and ecology using insect crop pests as model systems. He later became interested in conflicts of interest and their impact on publication bias. Denis has also been involved in many evaluation committees to assess or hire researchers. Ten years ago, together with Thomas Guillemaud, he co-founded the Peer Community In (PCI) initiative and its associated diamond open access journal, Peer Community Journal.
Melissa Seelye, OACIP Community Engagement Strategist
As the Community Engagement Strategist for the Lyrasis Open Access Community Investment Program (OACIP), Melissa works to broaden support within the Lyrasis member community and beyond for sustainable, principle-aligned publishing models. Previously, Melissa worked as an academic librarian specialized in scholarly communication at the University of Oklahoma, San Francisco State University, and the University of Michigan Law Library. She has worked with academic journals throughout her career and helped launch the open access Emerging Library & Information Perspectives journal at Western University's MLIS program, where she taught a scholarly communication course for several years.
