This is the second in a three-part series of data visualization workshops jointly taught by the Harvard Kennedy School Library and the Loeb Library at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. We will be hosting each workshop twice: once at HKS and once at GSD.

Instructors are James Adams (Manager of Research & Data Services, HKS Library) and Bruce Boucek (GIS, Data, & Research Librarian, Loeb Library at GSD).

The HKS version of this workshop will take place in Wexner 434B (fourth floor of the Wexner building).

In this hands-on workshop, we will revisit the same data used in our first session “Using R for Visualization.” We will create a QGIS project and import and map the data. You will learn basic cartographic techniques including scaling, labeling, and altering symbology. The final product of this workshop will be a map layout that can be exported to various file formats for possible inclusion in reports and papers and other types of products.
