Virtual Photo Workshop: Photograph Identification

Did you know there are nearly 10 million photographs tucked away in Harvard’s libraries, museums, and archives—each with a story to tell? From daguerreotypes to digital, our collections capture the evolution of photography and the world through a lens.
This year, our photo workshop series is going online!
Join us for one or both of these interactive virtual sessions, where we’ll explore historical photos, sharpen your visual literacy, and uncover hidden gems from Harvard’s stunning collections.
Join Elena Bulat and Amanda Maloney from Weissman Preservation Center in a session on identification basics of some of the major photographic processes found in our collections. This workshop will cover daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, salted paper prints, albumen prints, collodion prints, and gelatin silver prints. Get tips and hands on experience identifying different types of photographs.
Session led by:
Elena Bulat, Paul M. and Harriet L. Weissman Senior Photograph Conservator, Weissman Preservation Center
